More paint selection

It was a frustrating end to the week for us and the builder but more on that later.

With the rendering of the outside continuing it is time to select the colour for the house. Never an easy job and I am guessing everyone has different methods they use. Most people will paint samples on the walls.

It was such as sunny day, it was a joy being outside and the patio doors were put to full use. The strange pipes are to drain the patio and will be trimmed back to fit the wall during the final touches to the build.

We both decided that the sample on the right was too yellow, so it was down to the other two.  Now to see what it looks like with the patio tiles

It is amazing how the colour changes against the slab, it doesn't look anywhere near as dark.

Most would probably stop there, but I thought i would check how they looked against some plants. I am guessing there may be one or two plants and pots on the plant display area.

As to why it was a disappointing second half to the week, the progress in the kitchen has been painfully slow.  The decorator seemed more keen on smoking than painting, and the builder turned up on Friday to find he had done almost nothing. Then on Saturday we were all looking at the painted walls and noticing he hadn't bothered to smooth the paint out and it was all going to have to be sanded and re-painted.

It is at times like this you find out how committed your builder is and I'm pleased to say ours seems to be a good one.  He sacked the painted, and spent Sunday sanding and re-doing the base coats so it was ready for another painter starting on Monday.

Fingers crossed that next week can progress as planned, as the kitchen has arrived and is now all stacked around the house waiting to be fitted.  The plan is to finish the paint work in one section in the morning and then start fitting as they paint dries in the other sections. It needs to go well as the people are coming to measure up for the worktop on Wednesday, so there is no room left for mistakes.

If everything goes according to plan we are looking at all the work being finished in 3 weeks. That would be week 17, so one week longer than the shortest estimate, but still in time for getting the house and garden back in time for the May bank holiday weekend.
