Today saw two more steps towards getting our house back. Firstly the worktop was fitted.
You can tell this is all they do, they came in fixed the worktop in place, checked the small trim fitted then fixed it. Next they drilled the hole for the tap and finally they siliconed all the edges.
Before we knew it they had gone but not before leaving one last instruction of not to lean on, rest heavy objects on, or work around the work top. The builder was not happy as he was fitting the windowsills and had to stop his work and find something else to do.
It looks great, the draining-board grooves are properly done, and slope down towards the sink. So they will actually drain water away instead of it just sitting there.
The only problem is that the light patches, on the edge of the worktop when seen from some angles look like chips. We have all seen bits and had to go over to check, only to find it is just a light bit of resin.
With the builder not able to do the windowsills, he started the kitchen skirting boards and then took on the job he had been dreading: slotting the oven cupboard into place. The whole kitchen design was partly based around the oven housing he had built, and to ensure it looked good it had been built with only a few mm of space to spare. He kept saying he could do it, but it was only today we found out how nervous he was. So he was very excited to show us not only did it fit, but it was pretty much perfect, with only 1mm either side.
The electrician is coming tomorrow to fit the actual oven, hob and to do the final fix on switches etc. For now we are happy to have the worktop fitted and the builder is able to relax knowing that all his careful measuring paid off.
