They have left!

Well sort of anyway, the majority of the work is done apart from snagging, clearing the rubbish and fitting the manhole covers.  Friday saw the last frantic push of work and the main thing was fitting the fence posts and arris rails. Did you know there was a national shortage of fencing?  We didn't until the builders said they couldn't get any. Strangely a few phone calls later and our order was placed and it all turned up on Thursday.

We agreed that the builders would put all the posts and arris rails in and we would do the boarding.  This way we knew it would be done properly. Once it was all up and the builders were out, the scale of our weekends work started to sink in.

Both sides of the garden needed doing, but the plan was to do one side on Saturday and the other on Sunday. Being a bank holiday weekend the weather had other ideas, and it rained most of the day with only a couple of hours to get out in the garden.  The first panels are always the slowest and we only got two of the 3m long sections done.

Today was much better though with no rain and we were able to get on with it.  One very nice neighbour came and gave us a hand with a couple of sections before lunch and by the end of the day it was all done.

It was quite strange being in the garden with both sides fenced, it has been so long since we have had any privacy as everyone walking down the street could just look in.

Now we can sit on the patio and not feel like an exhibit.  It will also be nice to have a bit of privacy from next door. As lovely as they are, having them there whenever you are outside is a little strange.  They agreed it would be good to have higher fences along the patio section which suited us perfectly. With the patio being so raised, the 5 foot fences didn't even reach knee height. We can now sit on the patio and not see next door except if they are at the far end of their garden.

We still have to sort a final bit of fence at the end by the gate and treat the wood, but it is pretty much there.

Sadly tomorrow the weather forecast is for rain all day tomorrow, so that job will have to wait. I can't say I mind though,  a full day of cutting, hammering and moving planks of wood was probably not the gentle way to break back into gardening after a long time off!
