We wanted it to be bright.

While the rest of the house is being stripped back and built up again, the kitchen / diner is being decorated. The "ghost coat" of paint is on to seal the plaster so it is starting to be brighter in the dark corner

You may be wondering why it seems to be so much brighter. You would be correct, it is not just the paint on the walls, the skylights are in as well.

The roofers starting work on this roof has been eventful.  Firstly they cut the roof felt to fit the sky lights only for a pool of water to run though onto the walls.  Then apparently one of the roofers wasn't looking where he was going and fell through one of the other skylights, landing with quite a thud on the kitchen floor.  Thankfully no long term harm was done in either event.

The tiler has also started work, and most of the floor tiles are down. This finally starts to give an idea of space. They need a good clean but at least they work. While they look good, it's the windows that steal the show at the moment.

Even with the patio doors fully sealed it is really sunny and bright.  The conversation is now about do we need to paint the room a darker colour, to avoid requiring sun glasses to sit in there.

No matter what the colour of the walls, my favourite view is still of the light streaming though the skylights.  One of the key features we wanted in the house was bight light, so as each of the openings gets their glass and are finished it adds a new level of brightness to the space.

It is strange to think that the little window on the far side of room is twice the size of the old kitchen windows, now it looks tiny.

With all these little steps and decorating under way, the big question is will they finish on time.  Five weeks seems both very soon and at the same time a long way away, to finish the remaining work.
