Rocks, paths and the first plants

It's been a hectic weekend in the muttley palace. After two false starts the rocks and gravel turned up for the rockery and paths, 3 tonnes of rock and 1 of gravel meant it was always going to be a hard work weekend.  It didn't get off to the best start, the first pallet of rock off the truck the pallet snapped the stone was not balanced and the whole lot fell off.  So much for the nice gentle start. The rest wasn't much smoother but we got there in the end.

The afternoon was spent entertaining the neighbours, to apologise for monopolising the parking during the build.  It makes me laugh when the things people like most are the hall cupboards and the utility room.   Something to do with kids I understand.  Once people had left it was time to get on with the paths. A friend recommended some matting with holds gravel in place and just clips together, seemed simple: level, lay matting, fill with gravel.

It's at that point all the curves did not seem so clever.  The section around the man-hole cover has been left and will done at the end, so it can be accessed if required in future.

Then today, with a little help it was time to move all the rocks and to at least get the cycad rockery started.  Moving them went well, although with only 2 tonnes in the back, and the main rockery not built yet, it takes up a lot of space.

Then it was time to start planting.  For the first time since moving we actually had plants coming out of pots and into the group.

Now all we need is the lawn area to be dug over so we can turf it, a job for our next house guests I think. Surely a perfect way for them to spend the weekend.
