The path to no-where

It has been a while since we posted any updates. It's not because nothing has been happening, instead we have be enjoying the house and getting on with the garden.

The big change in the house is the glass in the entrance hall.  It makes the room nice and bright, which after having no direct light for so long keeps confusing me into thinking the front door is open.

It is strange to be walking out of the kitchen and to have the window greet you at the other end of the house.

Speaking of being able to see through the house, we had our first muttley vs fox middle of the night event.  She has free run of the house at night, on Saturday at about 2am she suddenly went a little mad, barking, jumping at the patio doors. Needless to say I was not too happy to be woken up, and even when I got down stairs she was still growling at the doors, hackles up.  It can only have been a fox exploring the garden, hopefully for the last time.

So the garden looks a little different now; there has been digging and moving rocks and more digging and more rocks.  A big thank you to the oldest of the nieces and nephews who helped out on two days.

The view from the side garden used to look like this:

Now it looks like this:

The path now runs to the decking the greenhouse sits on.  This is not because that is the most important place to visit, just that ultimately the decking will be moved when the garage goes and the path will continue down to the gate.  It looks a bit strange at the moment, but should all work out in the end.

The spare rock pile is considerably smaller as the main rockery is now built.  The view from the garage door before:

And now:

A better view is from the gate.

I would say that the planting is in honour of the American readers, but I guess everyone knows, the plants were around before the move.  It is good to get them planted and we actually have space where all the pots used to be.

There are still plenty of spaces, I am trying to resist for just filling the gaps with any old plant and waiting to see what fits best.

The next stage is to lay the lawn.  The area is pretty much dug and levelled. Now the path to no-where is in, the brick edges can be set out along the remaining two sides. Then the turf can be put down. Apparently it is not just the mutt that disapproves of the current level of grass. One of the neighbours kids comes around to inspect progress and on his last visit declared that I needed to work on the lawn as it really wasn't very green.

Then the really drastic work starts: planting plants that are not spiky.  Apparently we may actually have to have flowers in the flower beds!
