Making the most of the rain

With the weather due to break the timing was perfect to lay the lawn.  The garden had been mainly dug and set out ready, just the last bit to finish first thing. A quick rake and it was all set for when the turf turned up.

At this point, it was still very sunny and didn't look to be great weather for laying turf.  We needn't have worried though as it clouded over and there were regular showers, which were perfect to water the lawn as it was lain.

It is funny looking back to the before photos

Very different now.

With lots of rain, I hardly had to use the hose, which is good, although it will have to be watered a fair amount over the next week to ensure it gets a good start. I'll wait a few days and then redo the bricks around the edge; they need to be properly levelled now the lawn is in. Then the front row of the rockery can be planted and that will probably be it for this year.

The other advance in the garden is the arrival of flowers.  Someone seems to think cactus flowers are not enough and wants other flowers. I had never heard of campanulus before, but they seemed to fit well inbetween the other plants. Apparently they will form good low growing clumps if masses of flowers from In July and August.

The white one, campanula carpatica alba, is my favourite and has been planted somewhere it can be seen.

Flowers and a lawn, it really is like a proper garden now.
