We're at it again, a new year and a new project

While there has been lots of progress on both the front and back gardens,  there has been one little thing getting in the way: the garage.

We don't use it as a garage, it is not water tight, there is no electricity, and the doors are starting to rot. Plus there is the plot of land behind that we can't really use. So as you know we have been planing to remove it and build a smaller storage room/workshop behind it.

We found a builder and had it all booked in for April, then got an email asking if we could start last week.  So we spent a frantic weekend spent clearing it out, and checking what was being stored in the section behind it and on Tuesday the builders moved in and down it came.

They had to dig the soil level down about a foot to get below the height of the pavement and were planning on digging out the foundations as well.  Then they found out that the base was built to last and has a fair amount of rebar, so after a few hours of drilling and smashing they decided they would leave it for now and use it for storing materials.

They are not the quickest builders, but it is slow and steady, so by the weekend the outskin of wall was getting higher.

It is a little over 3m x 4m in size which should be big enough to store the bikes and garden stuff and have a work bench.  There will be a second skin wall of breeze blocks on the inside which will help to keep it a little warmer.  Then the really exciting bit of a extra strong roof which I will use as a green roof.

The problem with all this is that once it is done, I won't have an excuse to leave the rest of the garden full of weeds and generaly not gardening!  There will have to be digging, and weeding and not my normal form of gardening; which is to sit and admire how little work the succulents need.
